Summer Festival

Guide to Chicago Summer Festivals – June

Memorial Day is almost here, and while we take a break to honor the sacrifice of the many men and women who have served in the U.S. military over the years, this holiday weekend also means the start of summer! Here at The Apostal Group, we are very excited to get out the grill and spend some time taking advantage of all the wonderful things Chicago has to offer in the summer!

Summer is arguably the best season to live in this great city – we have miles of beaches for sunning and swimming, lots of harbors for boaters and a jam-packed summer festival schedule. There is so much to do that it can be a little overwhelming, especially if you’re new to the city or considering a move here. So in the interest of helping you navigate the busy summer calendar, here are a few of our favorite festivals coming up in the month of June:

Chicago Blues Festival – June 8-10 – This free music festival in Grant Park brings all the heavy hitters from the local Chicago blues scene out into the fresh air for three days of live blues music. This year’s headliner is Mavis Staples, of the legendary Staple Singers and a blues deity in her own right. (chicagobluesfestival.us)

Chicago Tribune Printers Row Litfest – June 9-10 – This behemoth book festival in the South Loop neighborhood known as Printer’s Row (for its rich history of print shops and bookmaking arts) celebrates all things related written word. Several stages feature free lit programs, book signings, poetry readings, and author discussions. (printersrowlitfest.org)

Old Town Art Fair and Wells Street Art Festival- June 9 – Over 500 artists display their work at these well-established art fairs in the Old Town neighborhood. When you’re ready for a break from all the art, hit up a food stand featuring lots of local restaurants or listen to live music on one of the outdoor stages.
